PENETRATION GRADE BITUMEN
ASTM Standard – Bitumen 30/40
Penetration grade bitumen 30/40 is high-quality asphalt, derived from crude petroleum refining. The bitumen has a penetration value between 30 and 40 Deci millimetres, according to the bitumen penetration grade 30/40 (0.3 to 0.4 millimetres). This kind of bitumen is regarded as medium-grade bitumen and is appropriate for several uses, such as waterproofing, insulation, and road building.
In tropical regions bitumen 30/40 Is one of the most popular ones for road building. Penetration grade bitumen 30/40 is high-quality asphalt, derived from crude petroleum refining. Bitumen 30/40 is dark in colour and possesses waterproofing and adhesive properties. Bitumen 30/40 is substantially non-volatile and softens gradually when heated.
APPLICATIONS:
Bitumen 30/40 grade is commonly used in road construction. Due to its high viscosity, it’s preferred for application where road traffic is heavier.
Penetration bitumen grade 30/40 is a type of bitumen that is used for paving and road construction in hot and tropical areas. It is a semi-hard grade of bitumen that has a penetration value between 30 and 40 mm at 25 °C, which means it is not too soft or too hard at normal temperature. It also has a softening point between 55 and 63 °C, which means it can withstand high temperatures without melting or cracking. Penetration bitumen grade 30/40 is one of the most used bitumen grades for road construction in tropical areas, as it has good adhesion, rheology, durability, and application properties.
STORAGE:
Maintain storage temperatures between 150°C and 180°C to prevent hardening and ensure the bitumen remains workable.
Use steel containers or bitumen tanks that are designed to handle high temperatures and prevent contamination.
Ensure storage facilities are well-ventilated, dry, and protected from moisture to prevent oxidation and degradation.
Avoid prolonged storage at high temperatures and frequent temperature fluctuations, which can lead to the hardening and loss of essential properties.
